Our new laneway house will soon be underway!
At Synthesis Design we are working towards making our projects increasingly energy efficient with the goal of achieving the Passive House standard of construction. Over the next decade, the BC building code will be changing to incorporate increasingly higher levels of energy efficiency through the “Step Code”. The current requirement for small buildings remains at the existing building code level, which will “step up” to Step 1 on July 1, 2018. However, we are aiming to achieve Step 3 with our new laneway house, which means our energy consumption will only be 48 GJ/Y (a typical house is 56 GJ/Y), this translates to only $1050 a year in energy costs!
We are excited about our progress towards the Passive House standard, which means well built houses and even lower energy consumption!
