Nestled in North Vancouver’s Lynn Valley, this family home underwent a remarkable transformation. The original interior had not seen a makeover since the owners purchased it over 20 years ago, and its outdated layout called for a complete renovation. The kitchen, once a constricted and fragmented space with angled walls, was the project’s centerpiece. Walls were removed, enhancing spatial flow, and creating a new focal point for the house. The kitchen redesign prioritized functionality for the family, who love to spend time together in this space. Ample counter space, efficient work areas, and maximized storage were essential. A custom-designed hood fan with shiplap accents and contrasting stained millwork became the kitchen’s showpiece. In response to the clients’ work-from-home needs, an innovative solution was integrated: a motorized stand-up desk seamlessly blended into the kitchen design. This central workspace was practical and comfortable for the clients, who often worked from home. Warm materials, wood stains, and wall paneling retained the original architectural charm while infusing a contemporary touch. The primary objective of this renovation was to create a space that was not only visually appealing but also timeless in style, warm in feeling, and cozy for the family’s relaxed lifestyle. The choice of materials, colors, and design elements were meticulously selected to achieve this goal. The resulting space not only reflects the family’s unique personality but also pays homage to the original character of the home, blending seamlessly with its natural surroundings.
